Within this section, it is my goal to explore my thoughts and feelings on a variety of subjects. Spirituality is first, because it represents what is believed, and that in turns influences how the world is seen and experianced. To goad myself into exploring these feelings that I have harbored over the last few decades, I decided to take action. This turned out to be coming ordained in the Universal Life Church. Why the Universal Life Church? The church has two tenets: the absolute right of freedom of religion and to do that which is right. Anything else within the law is allowed. Here I find a place that accepts what I believe and what I don't believe. This makes it easier to talk about them. Acceptance is an important aspect of the human animal, and while I feel that I am different from other human animals, I am not any better, and suffer from the same faults as the rest of humanity. As a recently ordained minister in the Universal Life Church, it is important that I define my views and beliefs (or lack of them). Up to this point in my life, my beliefs have been general, but undefined. In order to be a minister, I need to focus myself and provide an established point of view for my ministry. What do I believe? What do I want others to know of me? I am by no means qualified to present my opinions as anything other than that, an opinion. As for expressing an opinion, however, I feel fully justified in exploring my thoughts, as a means of self-expression and growth. Readers, of course, are free to ignore my ramblings, but it is hoped that some thought would be stimulated by the discussion of the topics presented here. |
